Procedure

  1. To prepare for the next reading, reset the max hand by pressing one time on the reset button at the top off-center (for Model 2000 rotate reset knob until both hands meet).
  2. This places the max hand in position for testing.
  3. Hold the durometer in a near-vertical position and press the foot of the gauge firmly against the specimen, (but not so firmly as to imbed the foot into the surface of the material).
    • The max hand will indicate the durometer reading instantaneously.
    • The regular dial hand may recede from this maximum reading after a few seconds.
    • This indicates creep or cold-flow of the specimen.
    • Note: maximum reading from max . hand and also note creep reading after a given time delay while maintaining firm contact of the foot against the specimen.
    • An example of a properly noted durometer reading: "Durometer A 61, Creep 7 at 15 seconds, 73 F."
  4. Repeat above steps for each use.
  5. At Rest Position: 90-95 (Types A, B, and 0), 0 (Types C, D, and DO)
